"Future of Space Exploration"

"Future of Space Exploration"," Lack of further human expansion in deep space corresponds neatly to the lack of new mega projects in United States as well as other economically powerful nations. It also gave up on attempts at provision of mass affordable housing (through utilization of best conceptual design research and recommendations), further exploration of increasingly cheap and speedy transcontinental travel, new mega canal/highway/rail/tunnel/bridge systems as well as concentrated effort to make use of the earth's oceans for national and global betterment. Media outlets like to say that continued space expansion became too expensive and superfluous since Soviet Union's abandonment of its lunar program. Soviets passed their industrial economic peak in the 60s while the American civilizational peak (with similar subsequent decline) was in the early 1970s. Medium Western powers such as England, Germany, and France all saw stagnation in the 1970s after the heady days of postwar consumer driven booms. The ancient desire towards national greatness (that China so readily demonstrates these days) has left the West along with ambitions of lunar settlements. It was enough for them to do money speculation in a personal playground that is the globalizing world. The decades since the 1970s did not really see the equivalents of Howard Hughes ( basis for Scorsese's The Aviator), Thomas Edison, or Andrew Carnegie. We didn't see Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, or George Soros trying to develop affordable flying transport, trying to get support to turn world's deserts into new farmland, or similar efforts towards awe inspiring historical milestones. The trend continued even after the maximum income tax on the rich went from 70-80% in the 1950s-1960s to 35% today. To be fair, United States has a lot of restrictions on private development and exploration of space. Only half a century after first manned flights did we start hearing about things like the Ansari X Prize (and even then from private pockets) to stimulate development of cheap private vehicles capable of reaching the orbit. The sheer material benefits that space exploration spin off technology gives to humanity are undeniable. It will take major competition from non-western nations and public national humiliations to get political elites to exert themselves again. We've seen the recent rapid construction of artificial resort islands in Dubai, the scores of skyscrapers in Asia that overshadow the Sears Towers, and some Russian oligarchs actively thinking of space tourism to compliment their industrial empires. The technologically advanced South Korea has recently completed their first spaceport. Perhaps a profit motive (or an illusion of one) is just what is needed. Things are coming together in such a way that a new leap into space is imminent even amidst a severe international crisis in market capitalism. For example there is potential for hundreds of megabytes per second satellite based broadband, new building materials and transportation methods, and popular psychological uplift that humanity is moving ahead instead of stagnating. Then maybe we can start also seeing actual mass improvements on the ground as well as in space. . TRY SOMETHING NEW JUST CLICK HERE

"Is 2010 the End of Any Future Manned Space Exploration by the United States?"

"Is 2010 the End of Any Future Manned Space Exploration by the United States?"," This has effectively ended any immediate manned space missions from the US until a review in the year 2015. An end of an era, where the United States once dominated space, and have now left its legacy to other countries like China, India, Japan and Russia to continue. After an agreement was made between President Obama and the Russian government, over the payment of transporting any NASA astronauts to the aging international space station. Japan has acknowledged this by recently successfully launching a solar sail, that could effectively move ships through the universe without the need of any fuel This frontier has always been at the forefront of our technological advance, as not only solar energy has improved because of our missions to space, but also agricultural and communication technologies, as a direct result of each manned mission. Something we have to now learn back on earth, whilst breakthrough scientific research is continue advances in nano technology, and sustainable energy use. Unless the USA pulls itself out of its current economic malaise by 2015, it is highly unlikely that space will ever be explored like before, and any dreams of a new Moon or manned Mars mission could be Chinese, or Russian rather than American. Putting a space program on hold, could be an admission that venturing out in space is going to be too risky, as the 2012 clock ticks ever closer- perhaps even admitting the perceived threat of bad space weather could last until 2015?. . "Why Isn't Poor Old Pluto a Planet Anymore?"

"Why Isn't Poor Old Pluto a Planet Anymore?"," Then in 1930, the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona declared it as a planet. Pluto was now a famous planet, recognisable to school-children - but what a strange planet it was - it was tiny, only coming in at one hundredth the size of earth and is primarily constituted of nitrogen ice - so it is a great chunk of ice, floating out there on its own. It's orbit of the sun is equally bizarre, unlike every other planet, it does not orbit the sun like all the other planets - circularly but rather elliptically. The Kuiper belt was discovered in 1992 - similar to an asteroid belt but constituted by frozen ices such as methane, ammonia and water. So on 24 August, 2006 the International Astronomical Union defined the term 'planet' for the first time and surprise, surprise Pluto didn't make the grade. WHAT'S UP

"Light Speed and The Universe Theory"

"Light Speed and The Universe Theory"," Does this mean that they are traveling into the past also, therefore making another universe in the past? Just how big can this universe get? It seems endless. Maybe that's the answer to the never ending universe. One younger, one older starting over again in a never ending cycle. Now I wonder if that means you can only go so far into the past, or can you get past the big bang and be in another universe on a different cycle, and how many times can you do this just like everything else having to do with the universe; its probably endless. And I also believe they need to rewrite the big bang theory because it doesn't fit into the scheme of things the way I see it. And if they truly are going faster than light we want be able to see them in the future if we live that long. Scientist know a lot about space but haven't even touched just how big it really is. If these lanterns are not fastened securely, they will fly away into the night sky when released. His lanterns were not for celebrations or festive occasions, but used to send lighted messages into the night air during war times. These lanterns have since been banned due to their capabilities of starting fires, and interfering with airplanes. This type of lantern has a center wire shaft that spins small attached papers around when the candle heat warms the inside of the lantern, making it look animated. The color red represents new beginnings, so is displayed to announce a new baby, or marriage. White lights mean a household is mourning a relative's death. C. "Why Does The Sky Glow At Night?"

"Why Does The Sky Glow At Night?" Sky glow is probably the most recognizable aspect of light pollution. This is wonderful, as it shows a growing awareness of the problem. The intensity of the sky glow is an indication of the quantity of exterior lighting which is wastefully shining up into the night sky. This is not the sum total of all outdoor lighting, this is just that portion of outdoor lighting that is so misdirected as to light up the night sky. In fact, the problem is actually increasing in magnitude and cost. Under pristine conditions, some 4000-5000 stars may be seen. You may think that this only impacts astronomers, but you'd be wrong. The human race has looked to the stars through out history in an attempt to understand our place in the universe. It is no wonder that more and more people feel detached, alone and overwhelmed in our continuous motion society. Sky glow also changes the surrounding environment. This seriously impacts local wildlife. Sea turtles are a prime example. If you'd like to change this situation, its easy to do your part. Night sky friendly lights put all the light they emit onto the ground beneath them and do not shine any wastefully up into the night sky. . WHAT'S UP

"Navigating the Stars - How to Find Your Way Around the Night Sky"

"Navigating the Stars - How to Find Your Way Around the Night Sky"," However, over the tens of thousands of years that humanity has gazed at the stars we have developed a system to sort and navigate around the night sky. The hardest thing about creating a map of the sky is that it looks different for different places on the planet. Because of this astronomers designated specific places on the celestial sphere to be the north and south poles and the celestial equator. From these points the sky is measured with two different things, declination and right ascension. It is similar to latitude on the Earth. Right ascension is a bit more complicated. It takes 24 hours for the Earth to make one full rotation, so there are 24 sections of right ascension. The vernal equinox is zero hours and the hours increase to the east. To use this system of navigation you have to be able to find the celestial equator and know where the vernal equinox is (currently in the constellation Pisces). Once you have the North Star you must measure how high it is, in degrees, in the sky. A fist extended at arm's length is about 10 degrees, while a finger is about 2 degrees. To find the celestial equator, subtract the number you got from 90 and measure the new degrees in the opposite direction. The equation is as follows: celestial equator=(90-height, in degrees, of the North Star) in the opposite direction as the North Star. . WHAT'S UP

Watching the Night Sky

Watching the Night Sky, But if you live out in the country, away from all the city lights, you can see a sky full of stars! But stars aren't the only things up there.   School science teaches us that there are eight planets in the solar system. After Mars comes the asteroid belt; a ring of massive rocks floating in space.   The other planets are incredibly far away. You will need a lot of space! The sun needs to be about the size of a soccer ball, Earth would be a peppercorn, and Neptune would be a peanut. Then take 10 steps away. Then take 9 more steps to reach Venus, and 7 paces after that. To reach  the spot where Neptune should be, you would need to take 751 more steps!  That's really far. Mercury and Venus can be seen in the early evening; they look like really bright stars. Saturn often appears very large because of its rings, and with a simple telescope, you can even spot some of its moons. It's not a UFO, it's just one of the thousands of manmade things we put into space.   Be sure to wave at it - someone may be watching!  Other times, you might see bright streaks of light across the sky. Some even hit the ground! If a meteor reaches the ground, it becomes a meteorite.   Learning about constellations is very popular in school science. Some of the most popular stories come from Greek myths; according to the myths, there is a giant lion in the sky, there are gods and goddessses, a winged horse, and even a scorpion. Comets are massive balls of frozen ice, rock, and gases. It's hard to tell when a new comet may cross the night sky, so be sure you look up from time to time. "Viewing the Night Sky - January Meteor Showers - The Quadrantids"

"Viewing the Night Sky - January Meteor Showers - The Quadrantids"," One such viewing opportunity is The Quadrantid meteor shower. The Discovery and History of the Quadrantids This meteor shower was first recorded in the 1830s by a Belgian astronomer named Adophe Quetelet. Up until about 1863, there is little record of much observation of this shower. The constellation's name in the 16th century was the Quadrans Muralis (Mural Quadrant). The Quadrantid meteor shower is special in that while most meteor showers originate from comets, the Quadrantids originate from an asteroid called, 2003 EH1. The discovery of the origin of the shower didn't come until 2003. More specifically, one must look to the Big Dipper and go to the end of the handle in the area between it and the head of the constellation of Draco. Firstly, the meteor shower is, for the most part, limited to viewers in the Northern Hemisphere. For example, Canada and the Scandinavian nations. One must catch the Quadrantids at their peak hour in order to see much significant activity. More specifically, the time between midnight and morning twilight. At their peak, the Quadrantids can offer anywhere from ten to sixty meteors in an hour, with some reports of over 100 per hour. In 1985, it was determined that 1000 years from now this stream will not have any contact with Earth. WHAT'S UP

"The Night Sky"

"The Night Sky"," This is the first time we could well see the cosmos and in the night sky. Most of us have no idea scattered from the large picture of the lights in a clear night sky when there are no city lights to interfere with vision. But I bet I can as a child I saw the sky seems clearly remember all the constellations incredible feet, and comets that move and a statement of points of light too much to tell the story. That is great. The fact that almost surely, almost all points in the sky a star or other celestial body that is much larger than the earth itself, not twice or ten times, but by factors of hundreds and thousands of people, an idea is blowing in spirit children. * Our sun is part of a large galaxy called the Milky Way, which contains a hundred billion stars or more like it. * The milk was one of tens of billions of galaxies each with billions of stars in them. * If you could go through the Milky Way for 100,000 years. You would have to drive five hundred million 500,000,0000 miles per year These little fun facts have a lively discussion on the origin of the universe and the possibility of space travel, or whether there is life on other planets. This debate can be fun, exciting and full of questions. And if you were there the first moment when they saw the night sky, you can experience your own great moment when you were a child. . "The Celestial Sphere - Astronomy's Model of the Apparently Changing Night Sky"

"The Celestial Sphere - Astronomy's Model of the Apparently Changing Night Sky"," To add to this confusion, printed star charts frequently show the sky as a circle, and in addition make reference to the cardinal points. The idea of a celestial sphere is not new. In our enlightened age we scoff at this idea, yet it remains a very useful model of the night sky. In order to grasp the concept of the celestial sphere, try to visualise an imaginary straight line that passes through Earth's north and south poles and extends to infinity at either end. Then the celestial north pole is located where this imaginary line extends from Earth's north pole and passes through the celestial sphere; the celestial south pole is on the opposite side. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT","night sky","99%" "The Night Sky Zone"," It's as if we're inside of some great celestial (sky) sphere upon which the stars appear to be attached. In science we like to use models to illustrate abstract concepts. The International Astronomical Union officially designated a total of 88 constellations in the entire celestial sphere in 1930. A circular cardboard cutout looking like a star map freely rotating on a central pivot and connected to a square cardboard piece can be set to a time and day of the month while facing a certain direction. Recognizing stars and constellations is a good start, but locating much smaller, specific areas of the sky requires a detailed set of star charts. Lines representing streets and roads going north-south and east-west on our earth map can be turned into lines representing celestial coordinates on our sky map. These celestial lines of latitude north and south of the equator are now called lines of declination. Each degree can be further subdivided into 60 equal minutes (not time) of arc (part of the circle formed by the complete line) and each minute divided into 60 equal seconds (again, not time) of arc. One minute of arc at the Earth's celestial equator is approximately equal to one nautical mile on the earth. They measure hour angles increasing westward from 1 to 24 (0 and 24 are the same line) and are subdivided further into minutes and seconds of actual time. Equatorial mountings for telescopes can incorporate setting circles to manually align the instrument or use computers and motors to locate and track celestial objects. . WHAT'S UP

THE DARK NIGHT SKY

However, you know - but your ancestors didn't know - that the earth rotates about its polar axis from west to east once in 24 hours. The way in which these apparent movements occur depend on where you are situated on the earth's surface. On the other hand, for a person standing at one of the poles, the horizon coincides with the celestial equator, and it would appear that half the sky, the part above the horizon, is turning about the pole - clockwise at the north pole, and anti-clockwise at the south pole. The height of the pole in degrees corresponds to the observers latitude. Then the celestial south pole would be located 30 degrees above your southern horizon. Of course, the same would apply if you found yourself in the northern hemisphere. A person who is familiar with the night sky would know that any given star appears to rise about four minutes earlier every night as seen from a particular place on Earth. It is this motion that changes our vantage point with respect to the background stars. . WHAT'S UP

Olbers Paradox

"Dark Night Sky: Olbers Paradox"," Professions could freely intermingle and overlap. His work on comets and asteroids earned him a fairly respectable niche in astronomy, still he continued to be a physician. Almost towards the end of this career he brought it in the open. Newton argued in its favor and explained why it should be so. He reasoned that if there were infinite number of stars, the sky would be covered with stars. Yet the night sky is dark. It turns out though that a Swiss astronomer Cheseaux had made the same observation half a century ago and had mentioned it in his book. He tried a couple of explanations but found them unsatisfactory. Later though it turned out that this explanation would not fit either. So the paradox remained unresolved. The answer to the question was: the sky is not dazzling bright because the universe is spending its energy in expanding. Whatever remains is so thinned out over the vast distance as to be negligible. Redshift is the term used for the shift of the frequency of light towards the red end of the spectrum due to the source moving away from the observer. The frequency emitted by a source increases if it is approaching and decreases if it is receding. In the case of visible light the two ends of the spectrum are blue and red. All distant galaxies show redshifts directly depending on their distance, which shows that the universe is expanding. WHAT'S UP

Jean Hunter, an associate professor of agricultural and biological engineering, has been working with research partner Orbital Technologies Corp. , to develop a revolutionary trash dryer for NASA. Further, this water is purified for drinking purposes and the trash remains dry, odorless and static. The technique is called Heat-pump dehumidification frequently used for drying lumber. Why Don't the Space Shuttle and Space Station Fall to Earth?

Conversation-Stopper - Why Don't the Space Shuttle and Space Station Fall to Earth?,Gravity - the attractive force between two masses (or bodies - the product of their masses divided by the square of the distance between the two centers) - does act continually and everywhere; the answer, therefore, is that the Shuttle, Space Station and Moon are each traveling at high speeds and (corresponding) heights, circling Earth, as does the Earth in its orbit around the Sun - and that all are always ""falling around"" the curvature, e. of the Earth. The same is true throughout the universe, and while attractive forces exist between all bodies in the Universe, each to each other, the factor of distance-squared in the denominator effectively eliminates the significance of all other bodies in comparison to the two involved in satellite orbiting. At the completion of the mission, to return to Earth, the Orbiter is slowed slightly - dropping closer to Earth - smashing into individual air molecules, which are ""vaporized"" by the impact - a tiny pulse of both ""drag"" (causing further slowing and lowering of the Shuttle) and also of ""heat"". The concept of the Space Shuttle is remarkably and functionally (and beautifully) simple and reliable - as a result of reliance upon this function of insulation - in an absolutely hostile, unforgiving space environment of cryogenic iciness plus vacuum. The tiles are individually designed for the anticipated reentry temperatures, 6x6 inches in size and average about 1 inch in depth; Inside, they are comprised of extremely long, fine filaments of quartz, compressed into the vacuumized tile volume, with a covering of thin glass. Tile surfaces are relatively easily damaged, the inside appearance likened to white styrofoam - however, when the outside temperature is 3000 degrees F, the backside (attached to the aluminum structure of the Orbiter by ordinary RTV Room Temperature Vulcanizer) - is only 80 degrees F. However, because of the tremendous insulating capability of the tiles, a greatly simplified and reliable Space Shuttle concept has been achievable: The Orbiter vehicle itself was essentially designed and constructed much as a conventional aircraft - its only flight function, landing after reentry, uses conventional flight controls, tires and brakes (the landing speed is similar to a commercial jet aircraft, about 160 mph). The most powerful and efficient rocketry arrangement is therefore designed for the lift-off sequence: two solid rockets (approximately twelve feet in diameter), plus the three Orbiter engines (fueled by the large center fuel-oxidizer tank); all five are fired simultaneously for maximum thrust at lift-off (approximately seven million pounds thrust required) - along with the giant ground-retention explosive bolts at the base of the solid rockets (only attachment of the entire assemblage to the launch platform). A human-interest worry about mankind's 21st century ""Space adventures"" is space debris - the remains of space-hardware rocketry that have not, as yet, returned to Earth. The larger ones are monitored - just recently, March 5, 2009, warnings about a possible strike of the International Space Station forced the US astronauts to take shelter in the parked Russian Soyuz capsule. The NASA Orbital Debris Program Office is at Johnson Space Center, reporting that about 13,000 such threats are constantly tracked, of about 600,000 total debris items.

The Future of Private Space Flight

"The Future of Private Space Flight and Some Concerns With Sensitive Technology Discussed"," It was a highly successful program, and it had delivered over three decades with an incredible safety record, much better than was anticipated. NASA should be commended. More or less, this is a practice run, but it is a good sign for the future. Sounds great to me, of course I am worried about that technology being used by rogue nation-states to further develop ICBM technologies, not that they can't buy such hardware from China, but it is a problematic challenge in a less than peaceful world in the present period. He also was not too comfortable with the talk about canceling the International Space Station by the Obama Administration, and wasn't too keen on the cancellation of the space shuttle program. I think we can do better than the Space Shuttle, we have better technologies now of course. We ought to have a base station on Mars, and colony on the moon by now and space hotels too, perhaps at LaGrange Points. I tell you socialism is a real problem in this county, it will destroy this great nation if we let it. The article stated; ""NASA is at a crossroads. ""I firmly believe if we lose this talent, it won't be to another state or industry, but to another country,"" and ""Logically, I understand that it's time to retire the Space Shuttle and move on to something else, the frustrating thing is that there doesn't seem to really be a plan that's specific in the details for that something. How Rheometers Are Used For Many Industries

Rheometers are instruments used to measure slurries, liquids, and other materials where an easy measurement of viscosity or viscosity analyist is insufficient. The field is experimental but highly helpful and strategies are consistently changing to meet the requirements of industry, materials like liquid soap, smart fluids, and concrete and extrusion technology use rheometry instruments.

Dynamic Shear devices may be employed for applications as diversified as making a top quality asphalt binder to experiments considering the standard of wheat dough. Extensional Rheometers versions are separated into viscosity ranges for use. Types like contraction, capillary breakup and jet rheometry instruments are used for materials with a viscosity range of .01 to 1.0 P.as like polymer solutions.

Materials with a viscosity range between 1.0 and 1000 P.as frequently use filament-stretching versions. A consistent length product is utilized for materials greater than 1000 P.as like polymer softens like glass.

filament stretching versions. A steady length product is employed for materials bigger than 1000 P.as such as polymer liquifies like glass.

Foods like chocolate or some dairy goods can't be considered by the simple single cost of viscosity and rheometers are commonly employed in the processing of such foods.

Foods such as chocolate or some dairy foods cannot be assessed by the straightforward single price of viscosity and rheometers are typically employed in the processing of such foods.
